Blue Ketchup has been around since 2003, playing regularly in bars, entertaining people on their night out, and in special events. While their repertoire started mainly of covers, as the band continued to play, they started writing their own songs which they added to their set lists.
On the year 2005, record label Star Records released a compilation album which showcased three of the most promising upcoming bands, including Blue Ketchup in the music industry. The album, Graduation Day was released March of 2005 with Blue Ketchup’s debut single, Mountain Bike, entering the charts of radio stations.
Early 2007, Blue Ketchup closed a recording deal with Viva Records, and has just released their debut album, Kwento Pop, last July, with Bro, as the carrier single.
Their Music:
In a generation where alternative to rock music dominates, Blue Ketchup dares to go fresh, sincere, and unabashedly pop. Blue Ketchup pushes for a light, new sound of love songs – deeply felt, yet mush-free – and adds spice to contemporary pop songs, resulting to what we might describe as “pop with a zing”.
The band writes songs about unrequited love, and reciprocating affection, but in ways that are oftentimes injected with light humor an individual could never miss. All these together are blended in a style of music, which borders between pop and the band’s own rhythm and blues. What sets them apart from other bands is the way their music reflects the Filipino sound of the 70’s and 80’s. Best known for performing their songs naturally fun, it is no wonder that their audience does not find a difficult time connecting with them and making themselves welcome in becoming a part of the show.
Current Status:
Blue Ketchup is currently out with their debut album under Viva Records. Entitled Kwento Pop, the album features mostly original songs with some covers which they usually play on their sets.
Afer the success of their follow-up single Kamusta Ka, a Rey Valera original, which is also included in the recently released Part Two of the compilation Hopia Mani Popcorn, the Best of Manila Sound, Blue Ketchup hit the airwaves once again with their third single, Yakap on the fourth quarter of 2008. They ended 2008 by releasing a Christmas song entitled REGALO, taking part of the Christmas Compilation album Sakto sa Pasko with other Soupstar artist such as 6Cyclemind, Imago, Callalily, Sandwich and more.
Currently the band is out with their latest single “INDYANERA” enjoying its stay on radio countdowns. Blue Ketchup also continues to entertain people on their bar gigs and promo tours.
